Have you heard of John Franklin Broxholme?

One of the more well known Broxholme's was the author, Journalist and Editor John Franklin Broxholme (1930 - 2000). John was born 11th June 1930 and educated at Bradford Grammar School. He was an editor for the majority of his working career but in the early 1970's he became a full time writer publishing many thrillers under pseudonym Duncan Kyle.

The first of these was "A Cage of Ice" in 1971. It is said that he choose to use the name Duncan Kyle because of the popularity of Scottish named authors such as Alistair McLean and Ian Fleming, and because Broxholme was so commonly mispelt. In 1992 his wife Alison died of motor-neuron disease after which he gave up writing. His last novel being published in 1993. He wrote only one book under his real name " The War Queen" (1967) a historical novel about Queen Boadicea who reigned in his adopted home town of Colchester.

The above information is drawn from John's obituary in the Daily Telegraph, He had two daughters and a son.

I recently picked up a copy of the War Queen on EBay as I am also interested in the Roman occupation of Britain. It is an interesting read and clearly researched in some detail. To let me know about other Broxholme's in the news or on the Internet then Click here and send me the details.
