WWI service records and family (21st Jan 2012)
One of my 2012 resolutions is to access my Grandfather Joseph Broxholme's WWI service record. He died in 1940 in a factory accident and was a local Home Guard commander at the time of his death. I have a lovely picture of him which I often look at and even though he died long before I was born the sense of connection is strong, has anyone else ever had that feeling when researching their family?
Imperial War Museum, Commenwealth war graves (29th Sept 2011)
I was at the Imperial War museum in Lambeth yesterday and on a whim typed 'Broxholme' into the database in the WWI area, surprised to find two Broxholme's who died in the war, Joseph Broxholme, Gunner, Royal Garrison Artillery who died on 28th November 1918, aged 41, He is buried in Gainsborough and database reports him as son of Joseph & Anne of Covenham, Louth.
Two others also caught my eye Private GF Broxholme, 6th Bn. Lincolnshire Regiment who died 3rd June 1917 buried in Croisilles, France and Private AL Broxholm, 2nd Btn London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers) who died 25th Nov 1917 who is buried at Dochy Farm in Belgium. It would be nice to know more about these men, at 41 Joseph almost certainly had children, with out ages for the others its impossible to know.
